St. Augustine After Dark

The old city empties out after dinner and what is left is bars. Here is the order we do them in.

Curated by your hosts at Pink Hen House

St. Augustine is not a late-night town — that is part of why we like it. What it has instead is a small, very good set of bars within a short walk of each other, so an evening is a handful of rooms rather than a crawl.

These are all places from our own Craft Cocktails and Breweries guides. We have not added anything we have not written about ourselves.

8 min walk

Start downtown

The downtown rooms are an eight-minute walk from the cottage, so there is no reason to drive and every reason to walk.

Prohibition Kitchen is the theatrical one — a speakeasy-style room. Ice Plant Bar and Tini-Martini are both good openings; the Ice Plant is in a restored ice plant on the corner near the distillery.

For a brew

If the night is more beer than cocktails, Dog Rose is in our own neighborhood and brews on site — games, local bands, and the Lincolnville Lager. Bog Brewery is in the West King Street district with a rotating list of taps.

Keep it going

Odd Birds is our favorite late-night spot — chill atmosphere, and the Adult Capri Sun is the drink to order. Auggie's Draft Room is right on George Street in the middle of the action.

The walk home

Most of these are within an eight to thirteen minute walk of the cottage, which is the whole argument for staying in Lincolnville. Come back to the porch rocking chairs.

Good to know

  • Last call is early here — start earlier than you think.
  • Walk instead of driving; the distance between downtown and Lincolnville is short.
  • The backyard hot tub is a good last stop.
